Third annual alumni cocktail reception in Argentina
In September 2004, the Illinois Alumni Club of Argentina hosted its third annual
Alumni Cocktail Reception at Pabellon de las Bellas Artes, Universidad Catolica
Argentina in Buenos Aires. The event featured remarks by two honorary club members,
UI College of Law Professor Tom Ulen and the UI Alumni Association's Associate
Director for Club and Constituent Programs Paula Havlik '77 LAS, MA '79
LAS.
Havlik (right) is pictured with the club's vice president, Gabriela Walerko,
and president, Damian Rodriguez Peluffo LLM '99.
The club followed this successful event by hosting a UI information booth at
an international student recruitment fair in Buenos Aires in October 2004.
Festive dinner at the Radisonsas Hotel in Jordan
Also in September 2004, several hundred UI alumni attended a festive dinner
at the Radisonsas Hotel in Amman, Jordan. Under the patronage of Prince Al-Hassan
and Jordan's Higher Council for Science and Technology, this event kicked off
annual "Science Week" activities in Jordan, and was co-sponsored by the UI Alumni
Association and the UI Office of International Programs and Studies.
Following remarks by UI Provost for International Affairs Earl Kellogg, the
group voted on the spot to form an Illinois alumni chapter in Amman.
