Illini
might on Marco Island
“As you can see from the picture,” said Joe Antonello Jr. ’43
BUS, “the Illini are alive and well on Marco Island.”
Indeed, the “Hail to the Orange and Blue” float, created by James ’72
ACES and Penny Rolf ’71 LAS of Naples, was an enthusiastically pro-Illini sight along the Goodland waterways
of Marco Island, Fla., where the 12th annual Goodland Boat Parade took place.
Overall, the parade raised $23,000 to benefit Avow
Hospice,
but perhaps equally important to the Illini fans who were there, the “Hail
to the Orange and Blue” fight song won the “best music award.”

Illini fans in icy region
Members
of the King family, at left in their Illinois attire, brought in the Chinese
New Year by attending the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival
in northeast China. Formerly of South Carolina and now living in Shanghai, the
Kings “bravely shed or opened our coats for the picture,” according
to Orlah, who stands next to her two 16-year-old twin sons, Tim (left) and Chris
(right), and her husband, Ronald ’70 LAS, MBA ’87.
Though frosty 10- to 25-degree temperatures pervaded throughout the festival,
Orlah called the ice and snow experience in Harbin “spectacular.”

A
not so trivial pursuit
Ten
years after meeting each other over a game of Trivial Pursuit at Allen Hall in
1997, Sean Willis ’99 ENG and Sarah Ibis ’99
LAS, at right, became engaged at Carle
Park
in Urbana. Though Sean disputes who won the contest of wits, Sarah – who
remembers the evening perfectly, of course – claims she was the
Trivial Pursuit victor.
The couple’s wedding ceremony and reception will be held at the Swedish
American Museum Center in Chicago, where many old chums from the U of I will
be present.
“Those friendships have lasted a long time,” said Sarah. “The
friends you make at the University of Illinois are friends for life.” |

Wild ride for Illini faithful
Frederic Levy ’83 LAS swears it was pure coincidence
that both his kids, Owen (12) and Meredith (8), were sporting Illinois sweatshirts
at Carowinds in Charlotte, N.C., on Easter Sunday. Not wearing Illini paraphernalia
on the downward slide of the Ricochet roller coaster were Frederic and his wife,
Laura, who instead wore dark jackets and broad smiles.

Jolly
good Illinois fans!
Judging by their inscription in the sand on La Jolla Shores in La Jolla, Calif., Alan
Granite ’93 BUS and his three sons, Kirby (10), Nolan (8) and
Cal (6), from left to right in photo, were psyched for an Illini win in the 2008
Rose Bowl. Later in the day Alan and his boys attended the New Year’s Day
matchup in Pasadena’s Rose Bowl Stadium, with wife and mother Lori, who,
like the rest of the family, was appropriately decked out in orange and blue.

Business partners present UI flag
2008 marks the 25th year that Dwain Lutzow ’74
AA and Bruce
Dahlquist ’72 FAA, MARCH ’79 FAA, from left to right in
photo, have been in business together as architects at DLA
Architects Ltd .
The longtime partners look like proud UI alums as they hold the orange University
of Illinois flag next to the invitingly blue water of Gustavia Harbor in St.
Barths, one of the locations they vacationed at with their wives during the winter.
