onstituent Leadership Award
This award is presented to alumni who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and/or special efforts in the organization, management and support of a Constituent Alumni Association.
2007 Recipients
The University of Illinois Alumni
Association has honored two graduates
with Constituent Leadership Awards
for 2007. The awards, which recognize
extraordinary contributions to alumni
organizations within UI colleges,
schools and departments, go to Jane
A. Hays ’76 LAS,
JD ’79 LAW, and Brian
T. Heery ’95 LAS.
Jane
A. Hays
Managing director for the
Downey Group, an insurance and financial
organization in Champaign, Hays
has brought a personal touch to
alumni relations in the College
of Law, from writing fundraising
letters to classmates to assisting
in the 2001 search for a new dean.
A member and past president of the
college’s Board of Visitors,
she has also served on the law faculty.
Hays is a UIAA life member and formerly
sat on the Association’s Board
of Directors. She will be honored
at the College of Law Homecoming
reception Oct. 26.
Brian
T. Heery
Heery is operations manager for
Paper Source, a Chicago manufacturer
and retailer of fine paper products.
As president of the College of Liberal
Arts and Sciences Alumni Association
– a post he held for four
years, stepping down in 2006 –
Heery led the group to a range of
achievements, including a handbook,
new bylaws and a strategic plan.
During his tenure, the number of
attendees at LAS alumni events more
than quadrupled, and income increased
by almost 50 percent. Praised for
his interactions with fellow alumni
and students, Heery inspired one
supporter to write: “His gracious,
well-mannered style of leadership
and relaxed affability have gained
him the respect of all who interact
with him.” The award will
be presented to Heery at the LAS
Career Information Night Sept. 25.
