UIS approved for membership in COPLAC
Provost Harry Berman announced that University of Illinois at Springfield has
been unanimously approved for membership in the Council of Public Liberal Arts
Colleges (COPLAC). The vote places UIS among a select group of 25 public liberal
arts institutions representing 23 states and one Canadian province. 
Renowned Lincoln Scholar accepts Lincoln Chair position
Renowned Lincoln Scholar Michael A. Burlingame accepted the Naomi B. Lynn Distinguished
Chair in Lincoln Studies position. Dr. Burlingame was a keynote speaker and panelist
at the February Lincoln bicentennial celebrations in Springfield, and was inducted
into the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. 
New vice chancellor for student affairs appointed
Starting July 1, Timothy L. Barnett will be the new vice chancellor for student
affairs. Previously, Barnett was the vice chancellor for student and enrollment
services at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

Reid '84 ACES from
the final Central Illinois: Patchwork of People seminar series. Pensoneau and
Reid will discuss the lives of Illinois coal miners and agricultural practices
in the Land of Lincoln.

In this educational video presentation, Stacy Pratt McDermott '91 LAS, MA '93
LAS, PHD '07 LAS, discusses domestic law, matrimony and divorce in Sangamon County
from 1837 to 1861. Also featured is Stacey Robertson, who talks about the myths
and truths of frontier women. 
New UIAA Board Members
Six alumni from the University of Illinois joined the Board of Directors of the
University of Illinois Alumni Association at its May meeting in Urbana. The Association
is the largest alumni organization in the United States, with more than 650,000
living alumni from all three campuses of the University -- Urbana, Chicago and
