Alumni Association welcomes Class of 2012
The 41st University of Illinois Springfield Commencement ceremony took place May 12 at the Prairie Capital Convention Center. There were 770 graduates on hand to take in the advice of speaker Wenguang Huang, ma ’91 las: “Legend has it that a dragon is powerful because it draws its power and shapes from many different animals, such as a tiger, snake or eagle,” says Huang, a Chicago-based writer and translator. “I sincerely hope that your lives—and careers—take off like the flying dragon.”

Massive sculpture coming to UIS campus
UIS is the recipient of a piece of installation art by John Henry, a sculptor known worldwide for his large-scale public works of art. Robert ’50 (ui), ms ’52 (ui), and Ruth Vogele ’49 (ui) donated the piece to the campus. The Vogeles have given more than 20 works of art by contemporary artists to UIS.
