Constituent Leadership Award

This award is presented to alumni who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and/or special efforts in the organization, management and support of a Constituent Alumni Association.

2011 Recipient

Literally the face of women in engineering at Illinois – her image illustrates recruiting posters for graduate students – Jennifer Sterling ’89 eng, ms ’90 eng, is a past member of the alumni board of the University’s electrical and computer engineering department, which in 2006 honored her service and leadership with its Marcia Peterman Award. She went on to establish – and today continues to run – the ECE Freshman Calling Program, which coordinates welcoming phone calls from department alumni to incoming students. A strong advocate in the campaign for a new ECE building and a lead donor in other ECE fundraising efforts, Sterling has also served the University of Illinois Alumni Association as a member of the Constituent Management Committee, 2005-2008. She is director, transmission strategy & compliance, in the Oakbrook Terrace offices of the Chicago nuclear energy company Exelon.
