Friday, Oct. 18

iHelp: a volunteer project

In this official kickoff to Homecoming, alumni around the world are asked to volunteer in their communities in the name of Alma Mater today and throughout Homecoming Week. The event dovetails with UI Student Service Day, which also takes place on Oct. 18. Volunteers are urged to pledge service time online at www.uiaa.org/ihelp, and send photos and videos of their activities.

Friday, Oct. 25

Army ROTC Hall of Fame Induction and Alumni Barbecue
10-11:30 a.m. induction and unveiling of Hall;
12:30 p.m. outdoor barbecue

Induction: Room 2025, Student Dining and Residential Programs building, 301 E. Gregory Drive, Champaign

Unveiling: Southeast entrance of Armory Building, 505 E. Armory Ave., Champaign

Barbecue: West end of Armory Building

Reservation Deadline: Oct. 14

Cost for barbecue: $10 per adult, $5 for youth under age 18

Illini Block Party
4-6 p.m.
Along parade route on Wright Street, Urbana

Parade and Pep Rally
6-8 p.m.

Parade runs from 6-7 p.m., starting at Sixth Street and Taft Drive in Champaign, traveling through Campustown and turning south on Mathews Avenue in Urbana to end at the Quad. Parade Entry Deadline: Oct. 18 or 90 entries.

Pep Rally on the Quad follows the parade and features the Marching Illini, appearances by Head Football Coach Tim Beckman and the Fighting Illini football team, and presentations of the Homecoming Court, Illini Comeback guests and UI Alumni Association’s Lou Liay Spirit Award.

Stop by for Illini swag and light refreshments, pose for a photo with the new statue of Abraham Lincoln at the building’s east entrance and mingle with fellow alumni. Free parking in south lot (unless otherwise marked) and nearby MTD bus stop for its Gameday route to the 2:30 kickoff with Michigan State.
