Rankings: How does UIC rank compared to other schools?
U.S. News and World Report just ranked UIC between 130-194 for U.S. universities. That ranking places UIC in the top 4% of the 4,000 colleges and universities in the nation. UIC was also ranked a "best-buy" university.
UIC has been designated a Carnegie Foundation Research I Institution. This is a distinction that is shared by only 151, of the 4,000, colleges and universities in the country. This designation considers the breadth of study at the institution, especially regarding the research being conducted. Essentially, UIC is at the forefront of research being conducted in many different fields.
Conducting world-class research is fundamental to UIC, with research and development expenditures totally more than $228 million in the fiscal year 2004, and increase of 12.3 percent. For the first time, UIC ranks in the top 50 of the National Science Foundation's annual rankings.

Remember!
There are always "intangibles" that cannot be ranked. For example, the opportunities that are available to our students based on our location are hard to quantify. While rankings can be helpful in making a decision, they should not be the deciding factor. Encourage the students to visit and see firsthand what UIC has to offer!
