Fast Facts on UIC
With over 26,000 students, the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is the largest university in the Chicago area. Located just west of Chicago's Loop, UIC is a vital part of the educational, technological and cultural fabric of the region.
UIC was formed in 1982 by the consolidations of two U of I campuses: the Medical Center campus, which dates back to the 19th century, and the comprehensive Chicago Circle Campus which replaced, in 1965, the Navy Pier Campus that had opened in 1946 to educate returning veterans.
According to U.S. News & World Report, UIC is one of the most diverse and affordable universities in the nation. UIC is a "best buy," according to Barron's Best Buys in College Education.
