Q: How many students get financial aid, and how can I get it?
A: Over 60% of UIC's students will take out some kind of loan. Most students who fill out the necessary paperwork in a timely fashion receive some sort of aid. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the official form that UIC accepts. This should be filled out between January 1 and March 1 of the year prior to enrollment. The FAFSA can be obtained through UIC's Financial Aid Office in person or by phone at 312/996-3126; high school and community college advisors should also have these forms. Although UIC does offer some scholarships, many of these are reserved for students who are already enrolled at UIC; therefore, many beginning students are not necessarily eligible. Students should also be encouraged to ask their guidance counselor about local and private scholarships that may be available. The UIC Office for Student Financial Aid's web page (www.uic.edu/depts/safa) also provides some scholarship information.

Q: Does UIC accept Advanced Placement (AP) credit and other transfer credit?
A: UIC accepts almost all AP credit that is applicable to a UIC course; a complete list can be found in the catalog. We also accept credits from most community colleges, but the student should always contact UIC before they register for a class to ensure that it will transfer. The admissions office has transfer guides for most community colleges in the area, as well as some four-year universities.

Q: Is there an Honors College at UIC?
A: Yes there is. The Honors College encourages high school students with high ACT/SAT scores and/or exceptional high school records to apply. Admission is based upon standardized test scores, high school academic record, extracurricular interests and activities, strength of written essays, interview and willingness to participate in the Honors College program. Current college students, either transferring to UIC or currently attending UIC, may apply if they have a GPA of 3.40-4.00 or higher (4.40-5.00) and at least three semesters left prior to graduation.

The Honors College also offers scholarships that range from a $1,000 one-time award to scholarships that cover four years of tuition and fees. Please visit our Web site for more information.
