Dear Fellow Alumni,
Let's gather again, in this 60th anniversary year, for one last salute to the unique place where many of us laid the foundations of our futures. Out of the world's billions, only about 100,000 of us had the distinctive educational experience of attending the U of I campus at Navy Pier.
Today, Navy Pier is considered one of Chicago's great tourist attractions. But for many of us, Navy Pier represented peace and hope after a terrible war. To others, including myself, it also provided an educational opportunity otherwise not available in Chicago. Therefore, it is only fitting that we gather one more time to salute its history and share our memories.
On Feb. 3, 2006, we shall recall the good, the bad and the endearingly ugly by commemorating our Navy Pier experiences. As part of the UIAA UIC 2006 City Partner Awards Gala, we will gather in what used to be the east-end gymnasium, now the Grand Ballroom, and recall the only two traditions that carried over to the University of Illinois at Chicago: the Bell Honor Award and the Activities Honorary Society. To these traditions, we will add a book of memories your memories to become part of the permanent history of our great University. (Submit your memory via the link to the right or below.)
I invite you to begin your trip down memory lane. Please circle the date of Feb. 3, 2006, and be part of this final salute to a wonderful institution of higher learning. If you have questions about the gala, please contact Tara Anderson at 312/996-8535 or mbeastal@uic.edu.
