IC City Partner Award
Selection criteria | Nomination form | Recipients
The City Partner Award was created in 1993 by a committee of alumni volunteers and campus staff members to recognize ...
"Those University of Illinois alumni who have
gone on from UIC to contribute to the vitality of the Chicago metropolitan area
in a special way."
The purpose and intent of the City Partner Award is to recognize the impact UIC alumni have on the region, whether the impact is quiet and generally unknown, or public and highly visible. The award identifies alumni involvement in two major venues, in either the key areas of urban development identified by the UIC Great Cities Program or in outstanding service to the University of Illinois at Chicago, itself. The six main areas of the Great Cities Institute are community development, metropolitan sustainability, health and human development, international partnerships, professional education and the UIC neighborhoods initiative. A committee of past recipients and alumni leaders determine the recipients.
The City Partner Award encourages all of us in the University to appreciate the strength of UIC's diversity ... and the diversity of our strengths. Thirty three City Partner Awards have been presented to date, as shown on the enclosed sheets. Honorees have included:
- The CEO of a major Chicagoland health care provider with corporate and academic ties to UIC.
- A public school teacher dedicated to the education of high school youth in a troubled neighborhood.
- The information systems director at a major corporation who actively recruits and advises UIC engineering students.
- An architect who volunteers his services to develop delightful playrooms for children in several metropolitan area hospitals, including the UIC Medical Center.
The City Partner Award is presented annually by the University of Illinois Alumni Association and the UIC Chancellor. Nominations are encouraged throughout the year, with a deadline date of September 30th. Nominations are kept active for three years.
