Virtual Career Center
Job Search Tools: Working
a Job Fair
- Go to the job fair to network,
gather information and network
some more.
- Choose job fairs wisely. Check
out the roster of companies before
deciding to attend.
- Research companies prior to
attending the fair.
- Take resumes, business cards,
pen(s), a notebook/folder, and
your references.
- Dress for success and wear comfortable,
professional shoes.
- Prepare your soundbyte ahead
of time. Have a 40-second introduction
ready that presents who you are,
what you are looking for, and
what you can offer an employer.
- Think about the job fair as
a series of mini interviews.
- Show enthusiasm and ask the
recruiter questions.
- If you are interested in a particular
company but not the jobs that
are listed, articulate your interest
in that area, outline you relevant
skills and experience, and ask
for the best way for you to proceed.
- Read the room and approach the
tables strategically. Don't wait
in long lines.
- Leave with their business cards
in hand and your next step in
mind.
