For Job Seekers and Career Changers
Career Interest
Assessment
The Alumni Career Center offers
an assessment package to help Alumni
Association members increase their
self-knowledge and discover new
options for career satisfaction.
Interest and personality preference
inventories can provide valuable
new insights into how one fits in
the "world of work" and can validate
impressions already gained through
life experiences. Although these
instruments will not always provide
definite answers as to what career
is the absolute best, they go far
in aiding the decision process.
The Career Interest Assessment
package is now available to individuals
via Internet administration. Alumni
who do not have access to the Internet
can call Claudia Delestowicz at
312/575-7837 to make alternate arrangements.
The assessment package consists
of:
- The Strong
Interest Inventory and Skills
Confidence Inventory
The most commonly administered
career assessment, the Strong
Interest Inventory compares occupational,
leisure and educational interests
with people who are happily employed
in a variety of careers. The Skills
Confidence Inventory reports how
well you believe you can perform
different work activities needed
for various occupations.
- The Myers-Briggs
Type Indicator
This personality preference inventory
shows how understanding individual
differences can lead to more satisfying
occupational choices, work roles
and professional environments.
Members may complete the assessments
at their convenience. After completing
the instruments and submitting them
for scoring, individuals will be
contacted to schedule an interpretation
session at the Alumni Career Center.
Those who live outside the Chicagoland
area will receive an interpretation
session by telephone. The assessment
fee also covers up to two additional
advising sessions within one year
of taking the assessments, to discuss
career exploration and decision-making
in conjunction with the assessment
results and other questions and
concerns that are important to you.
Members interested in registering
and paying by credit card should
call the Alumni Career Center at
312/575-7830. Those who wish to
register and submit payment by cash
or check may stop in at the Alumni
Career Center during regular business
hours and make payment to: University
of Illinois Alumni Career Center,
200 South Wacker Dr., First Floor,
MC-200, Chicago, IL 60606. Your
registration will be processed within
two business days. We will acknowledge
your registration and provide you
with instructions and the password
for access to the assessment Web
site.
