Work Life Balance

Are you maintaining your balancing act?

Everyone has multiple roles that they fulfill in their life; and, these change constantly throughout our lives. Spouse, parent, child, friend, worker, supervisor, and volunteer are some of the general titles we hold.

However, there is no model, formula or mix that will work for everyone.

Making it work
Each person has to work with the people in their lives to find, create and maintain a balance. This will mean setting priorities and making compromises.

Saying no, so you can say yes
It also means taking a critical look at your obligations and saying no to some requests. This way when you say yes, you can fully commit to the project or plan.

Have you found balance?
If you have found a system that works well for you and the people that count on you, we would love to hear more about your story. We are considering a panel presentation for late Fall 2011 on work life balance. While we are still considering alumni panelists, we are also looking for other stories that we can share. Please email you story to careers@uillinois.edu with "Work Life Balance Story" in the subject line.
