Get a 5-point Inspection for Your Resume

University of Illinois alumni from the Chicago, Springfield and Urbana campuses are invited to participate in the "Quick Resume Inspection Project”. The first 20 alumni who send a resume to careers@uillinois.edu with “Quick Resume Inspection” in the subject line will receive a quick 5-point resume inspection. Alumni should also include a description of their career goals including their targeted industry, function and position level.

The 5-Point resume inspection will include the following.

  • Point 1: Is it readable?
  • Point 2: Is it error free?
  • Point 3: Is it targeted?
  • Point 4: Is it accomplishment focused?
  • Point 5: Are there any red flags?

Each area will be rated between 1=needs improvement and 5=excellent.

An inspection sheet will be sent back to the alumnus with an indication of whether the resume needs to be improved, how to improve the resume or whether a more detailed review by a career adviser will be needed. Resumes will be inspected by alumni volunteer, Jandi Kelly Costello (See her bio below).

The sender must be an alumnus from a University of Illinois campus (Chicago, Springfield or Urbana)

For those of you who already know that you need more than a quick resume inspection, call us at 312/575-7830 to schedule an advising appointment with a career adviser. The cost for a 1-hour advising appointment is $60.

About Jandi Kelly Costello ’06 AHS (UI)
Upon graduating from Illinois, she became a Business Development Manager at an international, workforce consulting firm. In this role, she managed all employer and recruiting relationships for Fortune 500 to smaller, local firms. She was also an active committee member in several professional associations including the Society of Human Resource Professionals and the Staffing Management Association.

After several years in corporate recruiting, Jandi decided to pursue her dream of working at a university. In June of 2009, she started working in the University of Chicago’s Alumni Relations and Development department. She is also very excited to be a student again. This September, she began the Masters in Higher Education and Policy at Northwestern University.

Jandi in her own words:
Many of us are born athletes, scholars, or caretakers……I was born to be an Illini. As a third generation Illini, trips to campus and singing the Illinois Loyalty are cherished memories of my childhood. One the happiest moments in my life was receiving my acceptance letter to the University of Illinois. More recently, my college sweetheart proposed to me on the Quad at the Eternal Flame. We tied the knot this past summer in an “Illini Themed” wedding.
