At last, there is a space near the historic portal to the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign that is dedicated to all UI graduates. In the history of
Illinois,
never
has a structure
been devoted exclusively to bidding alumni of the University home. But that was
then. ...

...And this is now: The Alice Campbell Alumni Center sits on Lincoln Avenue in
Urbana, just south of the Hallene Gateway Plaza, the east entryway to the Urbana-Champaign
campus. Named by lead benefactors, Robert
C. '54 BUS and Alice Curtis Campbell, JD '43 LAS, of Los Angeles,
this facility is a warm and welcoming haven for UI alumni whenever they
return
to campus or visit the University of Illinois Alumni Association.
The new alumni center will be used for a wide variety of alumni activities
and events, and it offers nearby parking. In addition to the
beauty and functionality
of the
physical
structure itself, the Alice Campbell Alumni Center allows the Alumni
Association to better serve the more the 550,000 University alumni worldwide.
"We're very pleased with the widespread support for an alumni center," UIAA President and CEO Loren R. Taylor said. "Such a facility is really the missing piece of the puzzle for providing the complete U of I experience for alumni."
The $16 million project was financed by private donations. Construction was
recently completed, and, in April 2006, the Alumni Association staff moved
in.This new "home away from home" is a result of the generosity of many alumni
contributors.
Major naming sponsorships within
the
center are
still
available
at this time,
as
well as the opportunity to make a lasting mark with a personalized, stone patio
paver.
