Q: Will there be hotel rooms in the building?

A: No, hotel rooms will not be included in the Alumni Center.

Q: Can anyone rent space in the Alumni Center for special occasions?

Q: What offices will be located there

A: The Alumni Center will house the offices of the University of Illinois Alumni Association staff, and will include a reception area, library, galleries, ballroom and conference rooms.

Q: When will the building be finished?

A: The Alumni Center is expected to be completed in the spring of 2006.

Q: How many characters and lines fit on a paver?

A: It depends on which paver you choose. There are three colors available light gray, charcoal and red. The light gray and charcoal pavers are 12" x 12" each and the red paver is 24" x 24". The smaller pavers will accommodate up to three lines of text, 16 characters per line (including spaces). The larger (red) paver will accommodate four lines of 30 characters each.

Q: Can I have anything I want engraved on the paver?

A: All engraving requests are subject to review and approval by the University of Illinois Alumni Association board of directors.

Q: Can I use Greek letters?

A: Yes, Greek letters can be included. However, they should be written as words on the order form to ensure that the correct Greek letters will be included on your paver.

Q: What typeface is used on the pavers?

A: The typeface is Optima.

Q: Can I include a logo?

A: Yes, a logo can be included on each paver. There are five logos to choose from: the UIAA, column I, block I, UIC and UIS capitol dome.

Q: Will I see a proof of the paver?

A: It would be cost prohibitive to issue a proof for each paver. Instead, you will receive a confirmation letter that includes the information submitted for engraving. This is in addition to a confirmation e-mail from the UI Foundation, acknowledging your gift.

Q: What if the paver doesn't show what I requested to be engraved?

A: If your engraving doesn't appear to be what you requested, there are two possibilities: either the wording was not approved by the UIAA board of directors or a mistake was made in the engraving. If the board doesn't approve the wording, you will be notified via letter. If a mistake was made, the UIAA will make every effort to replace the paver with one that shows the correct engraving.

Q: If I order today, when is payment required?

A: Payment is required at time of order. This ensures that your paver will be installed in the order in which it was received.

Q: If I pay now, how soon will my paver be installed?

A: Paver installation will begin near the end of building construction (estimated to be December 2005). Paver orders must be received by Aug. 15, 2005, to be included in the initial installation. After the initial installation, additional paver orders received will be installed on an annual or semi-annual basis.

Q: How will I be able to find my paver after it's installed?

A: Soon after the first installation of pavers, the UIAA will launch a Paver Locator system to help you find your paver.

Q: Can my paver be located next to a friend's or family member's paver?

A: Yes, but the orders must be submitted at the same time in the same envelope. This option is only available on the printable (PDF) form. See the Paver Order Form link to the right.

Q: Can I order a paver in remembrance or in honor of someone?

A: Yes, and you can do this on either the electronic form or the printable (PDF) form. See the link to the right. Illinois Pavers are ideal as graduation, Christmas and birthday gifts. A paver is a meaningful way to honor or memorialize a family member or friend. An acknowledgement letter will be sent to the honoree or to the family of the person you remember in your gift.
