Each year since 1980, the Student Alumni Ambassadors of the University of Illinois Alumni Association invite a group of distinguished alumni back to the campus to participate in traditional activities such as the Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally. These alumni honorees also interact with current students and talk about their professional experiences since leaving their Alma Mater.

Dr. Scott W. Atlas ’77 LAS is professor of radiology and chief of neuroradiology at Stanford University’s School of Medicine and a senior fellow at both the Hoover Institution and Freeman-Spogli Institute for International Studies. Atlas has authored more than 100 scientific publications in leading journals and is editor of the foremost textbook within his field, “Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Brain and Spine.” Recognized throughout the world as a leader in education and clinical research, Atlas serves on the Nominating Committee for the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology. He is an adviser to major industry leaders in medical technology and has a special interest in public policy in health care.

Barry Sabath ’74 LAS is senior lecturer and senior mentor at the American Film Institute Conservatory, where he teaches “Approaches to World Cinema, Feature Development” for producers and directors, and mentors thesis films, including a recent Student Academy Award winner. Sabath formerly ran the film division of Robin Williams’s Blue Wolf Productions, working with the comedian on films including “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Patch Adams.” He has also served as senior vice president of production for Paul Schiff Productions at 20th Century Fox and executive story editor and vice president of productions at Columbia Pictures. Sabath is currently producing a horror film project at MGM and serves as a mentor for the Korean Film Council Filmmakers Development Lab.
