Illini Experience
True North Jack ’84 LAS, JD ’87, and Shelly Davis Knuppel ’83 LAS, JD ’86, wear the orange and blue over the Fourth of July holiday on Isle Royale, where temperature highs were in the 60s and the days ran to 18 hours in length. Located in Lake Superior, the island is the most remote U.S. national park outside Alaska, requiring a 650-mile car trip and 60-mile boat ride for the Knuppels to get there from their home in Petersburg. Shelly is president of the Sangamon River Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society, and Jack is president of Menard County Trails and Greenways, a volunteer organization. Both served as attorneys for state agencies in Springfield for more than 20 years.
